SCUM

A collaboration with David Fulford, photographer at Black Hill Creative

Robots are coming. You can see them dancing with Mick Jagger, opening doors and delivering tea on countless Youtube videos. They’re really cool, clever, and profoundly eery. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find videos of the early robots, big as a horse, petrol engine running, spitting exhaust fumes and staggering across an icy car park in Boston (possibly). Someone sticks the boot in, it recovers and a leg is sharply pulled. The engine screams as legs flail. Just as things are settling down a hockey stick sweeps in and it’s game over. ‘Scum’ presents a reworking of this innocuous but charged situation. Is this fine, this relentless kicking, pushing and shoving? Probably but please bear witness.
