Jamie Frost

his is a unique opportunity to learn the art of portrait carving from Jamie Frost, a sculptor acclaimed for his ability to capture the emotional and expressive qualities of the human spirit. A limited number of participants will carve blocks of lime wood using the finest Swiss hand tools. Lime is famed for its qualities, perfect for those wishing to make swift progress and capture fine detail. No experience is required, only a willingness to be absorbed in the processes and techniques over a full week. As we continue over the weekend I’ll introduce you to the work of many other sculptors and talk you through the different approaches taken in my own work. Carving is a beautiful process. The textures, sounds and aroma of the materials will awaken your senses, accompanied by the rhythms of each participant driving chisel with mallet.

This masterclass includes a choice of delicious two-course lunches, refreshments and all tools and materials. when booking please advise of dietary requirements.

Portrait sculpture is a really pure process. There’s no design or composition to consider, it’s a focus on one person’s character. Making a head is a fairly swift process but making a portrait involves small adjustments and subtle modelling to capture the mood and personality of your subject.

The fee for the five day course is £500 per participant, including all tools, materials and lunches.

Next course is 27th Sept- 1st Oct.
