Life Drawing

If you’re going to learn to draw, draw from the figure. Life drawing is rigorous, but it’s also huge fun, with profound discoveries to be made. I have been running life drawing classes from my studio since 2006, sharing the core skills of my profession with small and sociable groups.

In order to attend you just have to bring yourself and some enthusiasm. The course includes drawing media such as charcoal, pencils, ink, pastels etc. Good quality drawing cartridge and other papers are also included. The  studio is equipped with easels, drawing boards and all you should need. Occasionally you’ll try new media, such as printing, painting or sculpture, which is all included.

The course structure includes regular lessons in formal drawing. Line, tone, perspective, mark-making, blending, foreshortening, portraiture and many other subjects are discussed. You will be introduced to the work of other artists and encouraged to experiment and  express yourself.

Students enrol for a ‘term’ of around 10-12 sessions on one of two evenings. There’s an opportunity to catch up on missed sessions in any of my other weekly classes. Refreshments are also included.

Drawing is a very personal thing so it’s important that the atmosphere of my classes is welcoming and accepting. My sessions take into account the complete beginner but we also have plenty of experienced artists involved. I provide a structure, tuition, and advice to move things forward, while groups share their achievements and understanding.
